The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the US Congress, “Ed Royce,” send a letter to the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ms. Samantha Power urging her to request an emergency meeting of the Security Council of the United Nations to address the humanitarian situation and the human rights situation faced by Rohingya in Myanmar, who are still among the most vulnerable to persecution in the world.
He wrote, in the letter: “I urge you to confirm that the leadership of the United States will make the issue of mistreatment of Rohingya a key issue and will remain not only a major part of the discussions of bilateral relations between the United States and Myanmar but also will be addressed at the highest levels by the United Nations.”
According to the site on Foreign Relations he has called “Royce” to facilitate humanitarian access without restriction to the camps for displaced people, and to follow the efforts to improve the conditions of the local population and for an international independent investigation in the development of Arakan State.
