The ever first Rohingya Demonstration Worldwide takes place as Rohingya face increased human right violations.
The US-based Burma Task Force has organized the global day of action in order to bring an immediate end to the ongoing Rohingya genocide in western Myanmar/Burma during the NLD government led by Nobel Peace laureate Suu Kyi. The Demonstrations are also being held in Chicago, Washington DC, New York, Los Angeles and Stockholm. Rohingya organizations in more than 10 European countries are supporting the day of action, along with other organizations including non-Rohingya Organization and others.
The first worldwide demonstration for an immediate end on Rohingya genocide is conducted after NLD came to power in Myanmar/Burma because NLD government also commits human right violations continually legitimizing the human right abuses led by previous USDP government.
The NLD government has still not lifted severe restrictions imposed by previous military backed USDP government on humanitarian aid delivery in Rakhine State. Government restrictions on aid are causing death and suffering for Rohingya people living in squalid camps who were forced to flee homes during the heavy wave of Rohingya genocide conclusion in 2012.
“Ethnic Rakhine, Rohingya, Kaman and all other people in Rakhine State suffer many kinds of survival crises because of the restrictions,” said an organizer of demonstration. Another organizer said, “NLD Government must lift all aid restrictions in Rakhine/Arakan State immediately since increased violence and repression make Rohingya people face intolerable worsening humanitarian situation.”
Restrictions on travel and lack of security have made unprecedented hardship for Rohingya to lead the daily life buying food from food stores led by Buddhists [ Rohingya led stores were seized by government in heavy wave of Rohingya genocide conclusion in 2012].
Restrictions on international humanitarian assistance to IDPs and the rest of Arakan State also make the humanitarian crisis much worse than ever. Since 2012, plus 140,000 internally displaced people[IDP] have been trapped in ghettoized camps which UN officials have described as having some of the worst conditions in the world. These kinds of worst restrictions and lack of security force Rohingya people to make long and dangerous journeys to find food.
“More than ten percentage of the Rohingya population have fled Burma since 2012. The Swedish Rohingya Association and the European Rohingya Council (ERC) are also part of worldwide campaign on the plight of Rohingya and demonstrated in front of Swedish Parliament in Stockholm ,” said Mr. Abul kalam Council member of the ERC.
