The former Rohingya detention camp at the border of Perlis has been proposed to be the relief centre for Rohingya in the country, Padang Besar Member of Parliament Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin said today.…
Zahidi who is also the Institut Kerjasama Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (Ikiam) president said the centre known as “Asean Rohingya Center” was set up to control the entry of Rohingya illegally and to check on corruption.
“The relief center will be under tight security to avoid any form of bribery attempts. The center will also prepare counselling sessions, provide basic education and other facilities before they are sent home to (Myanmar),” he told reporters after launching a Humanitarian Programme for Rohingya and the setting up of the Asean Rohingya Centre, in Kuala Lumpur.
The programme was jointly organised by Ikiam and Union of World Rohingya Organizations.
