The 29th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council began on June 15, 2015. On the first day in the opening session, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein addressed the human right issues in various parts of the world, and the consequences of the human rights violation against ethnic and religious minorities. The High Commissioner has specifically stated the Rohin…gya boat people crisis at the Andaman Sea and the mass graves in Thai and Malaysia border.
In the special session on migrants was addressed in the afternoon program on June 15th. OIC and several countries spoke on the issue, and Rohingya issues was one of the major concerns many of the delegates have expressed. All the delegates that spoke on Rohingya issue have pointed out that the cause of the exodus of Rohingya is solely due to the persecution of Rohingya by the Government of Myanmar/Burma.
On June 16th, the major sessions will be on human trafficking and displacement. Rohingya issue is expected to dominate the session.
A special session on Rohingya human rights will be held on June 23rd, where OIC-Mission Head at UN in Geneva, HE Slimane Chikh, ARU Director General Dr. Wakar Uddin, Dr. Mohammed Taher Siraj, and several other speakers will address the session.
