The Chinese government has considered the issue of Rohingya Muslims as bilateral differences between Myanmar and Bangladesh, hoping that the two countries will maintain the momentum in the talks and consultation and deal with these differences properly.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chan Ying said in response to Myanmar’s proposal for the repatriation of refugees in Bangladesh and Bangladesh’s efforts to build more camps to accommodate them.
On Tuesday, China praised the positive attitude and efforts of the Government of Bangladesh to properly address the issue of refugees from the Muslim Rohingya minority.
China, as a friendly neighbor of Myanmar and Bangladesh, says it wants to play a constructive role in this process and continue to provide assistance to Bangladesh to absorb the displaced, Ying said.
China confirmed late last month that there was no quick solution to the crisis in Arakan state, where escalating violence had displaced hundreds of thousands of Rohingya minority to Bangladesh and stressed that a successful settlement of the problem there must accompany the reconciliation process, calling the UN Security Council to be patient with the situation in Arakan after the repeated demands of the international community to the authorities in Myanmar to stop their persecution of Rohingya as China also used veto power to veto Security Council resolutions against Myanmar.
