22 million refugees and IDPs in the countries of “Islamic cooperation” in 2016

The incidents of some OIC member states over the past year have led to the displacement and asylum of more than 22 million people.

A recent  report on “Natural disasters and crisis in the Muslim world 2016”, presented to the International Islamic News Agency (IINA), revealed that 22 million and 124,308 people in the member states have become refugees and displaced persons due to natural disasters and crisis. These countries during the past year.
These numbers, despite their rise, represent a decline of about 21 percent compared to the same in the year 2015, where the number of refugees and displaced people in some countries of the “Islamic cooperation” was 28 million people.
The report pointed out that 20 million and 742 thousand and 891 people of these forced to displacement and asylum because of wars, and about one million and 381 thousand and 417 people displaced and resorted because of natural disasters.
Syria topped the number of refugees and displaced persons by 6 million and 300 thousand displaced persons and refugees, followed by Sudan by 3 million and 394,500 refugees and displaced persons displaced and resorted,

The report also addressed the situation of Muslim minorities. He pointed out that the political unrest in the Central African Republic led to the displacement and asylum of 863,972 people, while a combination of political unrest and natural disasters led 497,706 people from the minority of the Muslim Rohingya in Myanmar to displacement and asylum.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation warned that the number of refugees and displaced persons is likely to increase, unless Member States and civil society organizations come together to find sustainable solutions to eliminate the causes of the phenomenon.
The organization called for the support of member countries hosting refugees. Pointing out that most of these countries are experiencing economic  and food insecurity.
