The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Myanmar arrived Sunday in Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar, to investigate the human rights violations in Myanmar, especially against the minority of Rohingya Muslims.
She is to visit the state of Arakan, Shan and Kachin to review the humanitarian situation of the people of those states and discuss with the Myanmar government a wide range of violations of minority rights in the country and to set a time-frame to monitor any progress made in implementing the actions demanded by the Human Rights Council Myanmar.
Buddhist activists said they would protest against the visit for UN interference in Myanmar’s internal affairs and weak government diplomacy, prompting others to intervene.
