Bangladesh Foreign minister AH Mahmood Ali on Monday said most countries and international organizations, including the UN and other human rights organisations, are in favour of Bangladesh over the Rohingya issue of Myanmar.

“Even Asean members requested Myanmar to resolve the matter,” he told the media,

The foreign minister was responding to a supplementary question from Awami League MP AKM Jahangir Hossain in parliament.

The minister said it is now the duty of the government to continue its efforts to pressure Myanmar government to resolve the matter. “We’re continuing our efforts at various levels…we’ve already urged Myanmar to solve the matter. The process in diplomatic channel is on through different organizations,” he said.

He mentioned that there will be a meeting of UN organisation Global Forum on migration and development in Dhaka from December 10-12.

“Bangladesh is hosting the meeting as we’re the chair of this organisation… there’ll be discussions on migration and development, and I hope this will help solve the ongoing crisis,” Ali said.

The foreign minister said Aung San Suu Kyi herself, her country and her government has many problems. “And you know all these… the over situation is at a sensitive level,” he said.

Regarding the Rohingyas who entered Bangladesh recently, he said Bangladesh is doing everything on humanitarian ground by providing them with foods and medical facilities.
