Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Recep Akdağ called on Turkish citizens to support the government’s humanitarian aid campaign for the relief of Rohingya Muslims who are being subjected to racist attacks and genocide in the western province of Arakan.

This came during his speech to Anadolu about the Turkish humanitarian aid campaign launched by the Department of Disaster and Emergency Relief and Red Crescent, on the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Ben Ali Yildirim for relief of Rohingya Muslims.

He referred to the human tragedy of Arakan Muslims, especially those who travel long distances to resort to Bangladesh to escape from the killing, persecution and violence practiced by the Myanmar army and racist Buddhist militias since 25 August.

On his visit to the refugee camps in Bangladesh, the Turkish official said he was deeply moved by the tragic situation he had seen there.

He stressed that Turkish institutions, especially the Agency for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA), are doing their utmost to provide relief to families in need.

Akdağ said that the Turkish government is doing its utmost to stop the injustice inflicted on the Muslims and return them to their homeland and is waiting for the Turkish people to help them in order to speed up the relief operations and others.
