Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan began an official visit on Friday to the Rohingya refugee camps in the “Cox’s Bazar” region of Bangladesh to assess the living conditions of the refugees and evaluate the relief efforts on the ground.

During the tour, Fidan was accompanied by the Adviser to the Bangladeshi Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs, Humayun Kabir, and the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, according to local media.

The tour of the Turkish Minister and his accompanying delegation included camps (9) and (16), where they inspected the workflow and medical services provided at the Turkish field hospital.

They also reviewed the educational and developmental activities inside the multi-purpose education and culture center of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), in addition to reviewing the humanitarian and relief projects supervised by the Turkish Red Crescent in collaboration with other donor agencies.

These diplomatic and field movements reaffirm Ankara’s commitment to supporting the Rohingya humanitarian file in Bangladesh and highlight the shared determination between Ankara and Dhaka to alleviate the suffering of refugees and confront one of the largest and most complex human displacement crises in the modern era.

It is noteworthy that the refugees in Bangladesh have been living in harsh humanitarian conditions since fleeing Myanmar in 2017, following a campaign described by UN and international reports as a “genocide” waged by the Myanmar military against unarmed civilians.
