Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged India to put pressure on Myanmar so that the country takes back its nationals, Rohingyas, from Bangladesh to their homeland Arakan.
The prime minister received a delegation of Indian journalists at her official residence Ganabhaban on Tuesday.
The journalists came here from New Delhi and Kolkata to attend the Bangladesh-India Media Dialogue in Dhaka, organized by the Institute of Conflict, Law and Development Studies (ICLDS).
Twenty-three renowned journalists from India, including 13 from Kolkata and 10 from New Delhi and 40 others from Bangladesh are participating in the dialogue.
While addressing the delegation, Hasina urged India to work at the international level to mount pressure on Myanmar to take necessary measures so that the Rohingyas do not have to face atrocities after their return to their homeland.
The prime minister said Bangladesh and India have excellent ties and she finds no challenge in this regard.
Hasina reiterated that any problem with neighbours can be resolved bilaterally through discussions, and Bangladesh and India had set an example solving problems like the land boundary agreement.
Replying to a question on whether there are any concerns in India on Bangladesh-China growing cooperation, she said many countries, including Japan, China and Saudi Arabia are working with Bangladesh in many sectors.
“Such cooperation is very normal and there is nothing to be worried about,” she said adding that no country could go ahead alone.
