The visit of the Minister of Social Welfare Win Miyat Aye to the refugee camps in the Kutupalong camp in Bangladesh was met with protest by dozens of Rohingya refugees who demanded the price of repatriation with all their rights restored.
The minister met about 40 refugees from Rohingya for more than an hour, during which he exchanged a heated conversation with Rohingya leaders in which he stressed the need to restore rights to all Rohingyas. He said: “Just as you are a citizen of Myanmar with all rights, so we are entitled to these rights. For decades you have robbed it. ”
One of the Rohingya leaders, Abdul Rahim, said at least eight rape victims were among those who met with the minister, and the group she met with had made 13 requests to the government for their return to Myanmar.
The group was angered when the minister said the Rohingya refugees should accept Myanmar’s national identification cards, which would make them immigrants from Bangladesh.
