Government collaborators have not issued any token after they withdrew all white cards from Rohingya Muslims in Balukhali, Taimbru, Maungdaw North.
All Rohingya Muslims in the area were commanded to hand over their white cards by Monday noon.
When locals asked the government men if they were to be given any receipts as promised earlier, they only got vague replies.
As a result, there is no documentary evidence left for the Rohingyas in the area.
The area shares a border with Bangladesh. Locals fears that the security forces will accuse the Muslims of being illegal immigrants who don’t have any identity papers and push them over the porous border.
A pattern seems to be gradually emerging where Muslims in some areas are not given any receipts creating a possible prelude for their expulsion from the country.
The Burmese government regards Muslims in the area as illegal immigrants in Bangladesh and is likely to expel some of them in the crucial election year. The regime relies on an increasingly militant version of Buddhism to entrench their grip over the country.
