Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said his country plans to bring “criminals” who commit violence against the ethnic Rohingya in Myanmar to the International Criminal Court.
Saifuddin Abdullah said that while it might take a long time, Malaysia was very serious about this issue, as this persecution had led the Rohingya community to become refugees all over the world.
“The Malaysian government is committed to the principle of punishing criminals. The main problem is that the Rohingyas were expelled from their country. ”
“For us, the investigation of the Myanmar case and the (humanitarian) crime is very important to solve at its root, so that criminals can be dragged to court,” he told reporters after visiting the Rohingya Educational Center.
Saifuddin said the information from the independent international fact-finding mission on Myanmar reported by the United Nations last month revealed the involvement of six people in humanitarian crimes against Rohingya in the country.
Therefore, Saifuddin said, Putrajaya wants to participate in ensuring that “criminals” are brought to the ICC as soon as possible.
