In an unprecedented move by the Myanmar authorities have imposed fines on families of Rohingya prisoners; for allowing them to deliver foods for detainees according to the correspondent of the Arakan News Agency
The correspondent said that the fine imposed on each prisoner may reach 50 thousand Burmese kyat, which is equivalent to approximately 39$ US Dollar
Some human rights reports issued by international organizations indicate that Myanmar’s prisons has more than five thousand Rohingya prisoners most of whom were detained following the events of 2012 without charge or trial.
This number can be increased in light of the continued implementation of its policies of repression and the increase number raids at night and arbitrary arrests recently against Rohingya in Arakan State west of Myanmar (formerly Burma) by the Authorities.
In the context of restrictions on Rohingya Muslims, the same correspondent reported that authorities have arrested four young men last Monday from the village of Gawdu Thara South Maungdaw city in Arakan with false charges of holding smart phones, Sim cards from Bangladesh and machetes were found in their homes.
It should be noted that the Government of Myanmar hinders the work of international delegations, particularly from Europe and Western countries to visit the government prisons.
The United Nations Rapporteur on Myanmar Ms. Yanghee Lee is just another international visitor prevented by authorities from visiting Arakan State during the floods that swept the west of the country and caused great human losses in light of the government’s deficit for dealing with it and managed appropriately and effectively.
