Maher Zain, the Swedish-born singer of Lebanese origin, visited the refugee camps of the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh those escape the oppression of the Myanmar army and its Buddhist militias.
According to sources of the Turkish Red Crescent, “Zain”, arrived on Tuesday, to the city of Cox Bazar, Bangladesh border with Myanmar, which hosts a large number of Rohingya refugees.
The sources pointed out that Zain, accompanied by the Turkish Red Crescent teams, as a volunteer, and contributed with them in the distribution of assistance to refugees in the camp, “Balukhali.”
Zain welcomed the humanitarian relief activities of the Turkish Red Crescent.
Maher Zain, born July 16, 1981, began his artistic career in 2009, but has achieved great fame among young people in different Islamic countries, thanks to his distinctive songs, which he launched in different languages.
The Swedish singer had already supported the international activities of the Turkish Red Crescent and, in May 2017, visited Somalia at the invitation of the Crescent to draw attention to the hunger and tragedy there.
According to the latest UN data, 688,000 Rohingya Muslims from Arakan province, western Myanmar, have taken refuge in Bangladesh since August 25 to escape Myanmar army violence and extremist Buddhist militia practices.
According to estimates, the number of Rohingya Muslims in the region has shrunk from 2 million in the 1970s to about 350,000 due to systematic attacks by the Myanmar army.
According to sources of identical international rights organizations, over 350 villages of Rohingya Muslims were burned in the area by members of the army and Buddhist militias.
