Myanmar’s Arakan province has seen a new wave of violence against the Rohingya Muslims, the worst in years. The violence forced thousands to flee to the Bangladesh border.
In light of these developments, the IHH has traveled to the region as part of an emergency relief campaign to meet the basic needs of those affected by food, clothing and medicine. The campaign is currently aimed at providing assistance to thousands of families who have successfully crossed the border.
The province has witnessed a new wave of clashes, involving the Myanmar army. According to local sources killed about 10 police and more than 850 Rohingya, mostly women and children, and the number of wounded thousands more.
A spokesman for the European Rohingya Council, Dr. Anita Shug, said between 2,000 and 3,000 Rohingyas has been killed in Myanmar’s Arakan province during attacks by armed members in the first three days of violence.
