On Saturday, the Turkish community in Germany held a protest in the vicinity of the Myanmar embassy in the capital Berlin to demand a halt to violence by the government forces against the Muslim minority of Rohingya in the western province of Arakan.
Participants at the protest, organized with the support of civil society organizations, held banners reading “Stop the killing of Arakan Muslims”, “Stop the massacres” and “Stop the genocide in Myanmar”.
In a joint statement, the protesters demanded “to stop gross violations by the army against the Rohingya, to which the world stands silent.”
“The continued ethnic cleansing, massacres and brutal practices against the Rohingya Muslims are unacceptable,” the statement said.
According to the Anadolu agency correspondent, German police have taken strict security measures around the Myanmar embassy.
Since 25th August, the Myanmar army has committed massive human rights violations in north of Arakan province, using excessive force against Rohingya Muslims, according to media reports.
Earlier in the day, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a statement that the number of Rohingya refugees fleeing the Arakan region to Bangladesh has reached 60,000 since August 25.
For its part, said Human Rights Watch (independent rights), it has documented images via satellite Hundreds of homes in the territory of “Arakan” has been destroyed by burning, since 25 of last month.
On Aug. 28, the European Rohingyi Council (independent rights) announced the killing of between two thousand and three thousand Muslims, in attacks of the army in Arakan (Rakhine), in just 3 days.
