Bangladesh’s Minister of Disaster Management and Relief, Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury, announced on Thursday that all Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar will be relocated to the Kutubpalong refugee camp in the southern city of Cox-Bazar.
“Authorities have decided to move all Rohingya people outside Kutubpalong camp gradually,” Chaudhry told a news conference in Dhaka, without specifying a timetable, Bangladesh’s News 24 reported.
Chowdhury said other camps hosting the Rohingya would be gradually closed, without giving reasons for the decision.
More than half a million Rohingyas entered Bangladesh from 25 August to 4 October.
The Myanmar and Bangladesh governments discussed the Rohingya crisis at a meeting in Dhaka on Monday and agreed to form a “joint working group” to bring the displaced Rohingya in Bangladesh back to Myanmar.
Since August 25, Myanmar’s army and Buddhist militias have committed crimes, attacks and brutal massacres against the Muslim minority of Rohingya, which have killed thousands and displaced hundreds of thousands of innocent people, local activists said.
