The World Health Organization (WHO) will launch a massive campaign next Tuesday to vaccinate several thousand displaced Rwandan Muslims in Bangladesh against the cholera epidemic.
Voice of America radio said on Saturday that there were widespread fears that cholera could spread among internally displaced people in temporary shelters in the Cox-Bazar region bordering Myanmar, as more than half a million displaced Rohingya Muslims To escape the violence against them by the security forces in Myanmar since the twenty-fifth of last August.
A spokesman for the World Health Organization (WHO) said the campaign targets about 650,000 people over one year of age and that another vaccination campaign will take place within two weeks after the start of the first campaign.
Bangladeshis who are hosting Rohingya displaced persons will also be vaccinated against cholera, the spokesman said.
