Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Dr. Yousef Al – Othaimeen said that the organization and the international community welcomes the democracy in Myanmar but they still practice discriminatory policies toward Rohingya minority.
In his speech at the opening of Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the state members in Organization of Islamic Cooperation he said “More than 65 thousand Rohingya citizens are forced to flee from Arakan State to Bangladesh due to rising violence against them, referring to the human rights reports and numerous signs indicating that there is a systematic campaign against Rohingya, in which they are deprived from citizenship and prevent them from moving, labor and so on .
He added: “We and the international community have welcomed, Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi during her victory and her move for democracy in the country, but the United Nations has recorded serious problems of human rights in Myanmar and which may have amounted to crimes against humanity, this represents a potential threat to the ASEAN region.”
Othaimeen called on the Myanmar government to restraint the security forces from exercising extreme atrocities and hate speech against Rohingya minority in Myanmar.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemned Myanmar many times on what is happening to the Rohingya as this emergency meeting comes on the foreign ministers ‘ level in response to these conditions experienced by Rohingya minority.
