Rohingyas in village of Khasarbil in Arakan is under pressure of financial blackmailing on regular basis by the mayor of the village with “strange” charges in the words of reporter, adding that the mayor is to impose large fines on Rohingyas “almost daily” he said.
And the reporter also added that the victims of the mayor continues to increase day by day, explaining that the fines amounting to tens of thousands of Burmese kyat and perhaps up to a hundred thousand in some cases. The reporter said that the charges ranging from the use of smartphones, restoration of houses, marrying of girls, digging wells, sending children out of the country and so on.
It is noteworthy that the Burmese authorities issued a decision a year ago to sack all of the Rohingya mayors in Arakan and to be replaced by Buddhists individuals without mentioning reason for the decision.
