A Muslim boy has been severely beaten by drunk Rakhine men in Naing Chong, Pauktaw.
On Friday, Abbaija (13), s/o Maung Nu fell in front of some drunk men as he went to fetch water. The men asked Abbaija whether he was a Hindu or Muslim.
When Abbaija replied he was a Muslim, the men started beating him saying that Muslims are not supposed to wander around like that. In face of severe assault, Abbuija lost consciousness.
In an unconscious state, the boy was dragged to the police station.
The police arrested Abbuija and when his relatives came to the station, they were told that a bail of 200,000 kyats must be paid.
The family then sold their house within the day to get the required money.
Abbuija was released on Saturday but as no medical facilities are available for Muslims, he is still in a critical condition.
