The military in the country on Tuesday sentenced seven people to 10 years in prison for being involved in the killing of 10 Muslims from Rohingya in Arakan province, the ABC News network quoted officials in Myanmar as saying.
A statement issued by the Myanmar army said on Tuesday that a committee of inquiry had questioned 21 members of the army, three police officers, 13 security forces, six civil servants and six people from the village of Inn Din in the state of Arakan. Soldiers violated the law by getting involved in killing villagers.
Myanmar’s military admitted in January that its soldiers had killed 10 Rohingya people who had been captured and charged with terrorism during last year’s attacks in the village of Inn Din, north of Arakan.
Reports indicate that at least 6,700 Rohingya people were killed between August and September, given the paucity of information available about the situation in northern Arakan.
