A 4-year-old kid was badly injured in Arakan state after 3 elephants entered a residential area in the “Maungdaw”.
An elephant wrapped its trunk around the child after it broke into his family’s house in “Thar Yar Kone” village in search of food, according to local reports, causing severe injuries in abdomen and bladder.
“Three wild elephants wandered into the village, one entered the Rakhine family’s house while searching for food, the family woke up in panic, startling the elephant, which then wrapped its trunk around the child. If they hadn’t intervened quickly, the consequences could have been unimaginable,” a local resident told Arakan News Agency.
The injured child is currently receiving urgent medical treatment at the hospital.
In a related incident on May 26, three villagers from Buthidaung Township went searching for frogs in Upper Padana (Chakma) Village when they encountered a herd of wild elephants. While fleeing, one person was trampled to death.
Locals report that wild elephants have been entering the area daily in search of food, causing fear among residents living near forests and hills.
