Rohingya activist spotted the extent of the destruction of a popular market for Rohingya Muslims in Arakan after the military campaign wiped out the entire market and removed all its shops.
The activist said the Boli Bazar market, known to Rohingya Muslims in the northern city of Maungdaw, was completely removed during a security crackdown in August and burned more than 600 shops containing goods worth thousands of dollars.
The video of the activist showed enormous destruction in the market and the shops were burned and some were bulldozed.
The activist denounced remarks made by Myanmar national security adviser Thaung Tun at the UN office in the Swiss city of Geneva that his country had not committed any “genocide” or “ethnic cleansing” against the Muslims of Arakan province, west of the country.
The activist said: “If these are not signs of genocide, which supports the testimonies of many observers and human rights organizations and the world, what is it? Is not removing a market of this magnitude a clear indication of greater practices against the Rohingya? “
