UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is still seeking a “strong and agreed” envoy to Myanmar for the implementation of a UN General Assembly resolution passed last December, a senior UN official said.
The spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, “Stéphane Dujarric,” said during a press conference at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York.
Last December, the General Assembly voted 122 to approve a resolution calling for the Secretary-General of the United Nations to appoint a special envoy to Myanmar.
“The secretary-general is looking for someone who is acceptable to all parties and also strong,” Dujarric said.
“Our position has not changed with the Rohingya crisis.”
“We want full implementation of the plan of former Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and we want to see the Rohingya return voluntarily and with dignity to their homes and villages and not to any other sites”
