Myanmar seeks to improve its image with the United Nations

The Government of Myanmar has announced that it intends to send a special envoy to the United Nations to explain the Arakan mandate to the international community and to win the United Nations position on its side.
This was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Kyaw Zeya, who said that his country’s envoy will go to New York where the headquarters of the United Nations.
According to the Irrawaddy newspaper, the Myanmar parliament approved a lawmaker’s proposal to send a special envoy to the United Nations to face international allegations and provide a briefing and clarification on the situation in Arakan state.
Daw Pyone Kaythi Naing said that the Myanmar government has not been able to respond after being accused by the international community of crimes against humanity and therefore must take the initiative to explain the situation to the United Nations.
“We are on the defensive, while the other side is spreading a great injustice in the international community. The government must send a special envoy – a respectable figure with diplomatic experience – to the United Nations to face it. ”
Political analyst U Tin Maung Than said the Myanmar government should find a long-term solution, stimulate economic development and create education and employment in Arakan instead of isolating communities.
