Nearly 300,000 Rohingyas have fled to Bangladesh amid current crisis
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Cox’s Bazar’s Ukhia on Tuesday to meet Rohingya Muslims who have taken shelter there, fleeing fresh violence in Myanmar’s Arakan state.
She said this to a meeting with government high-ups at Gonobhaban on Sunday, reports Bangla Tribune.
On September 7, Turkey’s first lady Emine Erdoğan and a delegation of Turkish politicians and heads of Turkish aid agencies visited Rohingya refugee camps in Ukhia. She praised Bangladesh’s move in response to the current Rohingya crisis.
The United States has also lauded Bangladesh for the generosity in responding to the humanitarian crisis of the Rohingyas fleeing the persecution in Arakan state.
Nearly 300,000 Rohingyas have fled to Bangladesh and 30,000 non-Muslim civilians have been displaced inside Myanmar after the military launched a counter-offensive, following attacks by ARSA insurgents on 30 police posts and an army base on August 25.
