The Rohingyas in a refugee camp in Bangladesh have prepared a list of demands they want Myanmar to meet ahead of the process, the authorities are expected to begin next week and over two years to repatriate hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas.
In the Kutupalong refugee camp, home to the 655,500 Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, six leaders briefed and said they represent 40 villages in the Arakan state, to Reuters correspondent, regarding the list of demands.
The list, written in Burmese, said that none of the Rohingyas would return to Myanmar with a Buddhist majority unless the demands were met.
The list, which has not yet been completed, demands that the Government of Myanmar publicly declare that it will grant the Rohingya nationality, which has long been denied, to the list of recognized ethnic groups in the State. The list also calls for the return of the land where the refugees lived and the rebuilding of their homes, mosques and schools.
The demands also included military accountability for murder, looting and rape charges and the release of “innocent Rohingya” arrested in counterinsurgency operations.
The list also calls for Myanmar to stop advertising in the media and government pages on Facebook of people associated with them as “terrorists”.
