Children and elderly Rohingya Muslims were crammed into crowded camps in Cox’s Bazaar on Wednesday and lined up outside a clinic set up by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for treatment and medicine.
Health officials said heavy rains increased the risk of water-borne diseases, especially as sanitation was a problem for hundreds of thousands of Rohingya.
Doctors at the clinic warned that they expected more people to get sick in the coming days.
On 25th August, rebel attacks in Arakan (Arakan), western Myanmar, led to a very violent military response, forcing over 421 thousands Rohingya Muslims, more than half of them children, to flee to neighboring Bangladesh.
A large new camp is planned in the area for the Rohingya displaced, but it is unclear how long the construction will take.
