A number of Rohingya activists across Europe held a conference in which they discussed the ongoing persecution by the Myanmar government and genocide against the Rohingya Muslims in Arakan State.
The conference was held under the name of “The Third European Rohingya Conference ” in the city of Esbjerg, Denmark on December 28th of 2016.
They also discussed the plight of Rohingya refugees who risked their lives to escape from sexual violence and executions procedures, and other brutal crimes committed by the Myanmar government.
Participants at the conference expressed their grave concern about the Rohingya situation in northern Arakan, and the situation in which the slope from bad to worse since the government of Aung San Suu Kyi took power.
At the end of the conference the participants agreed on 18 resolutions, including the emphasis on the desire of Rohingyas to live in peace with the Buddhist majority as equal citizens have fundamental rights, in addition to condemning the Myanmar government that committed crimes against humanity under the pretext of carrying out operations “against the militants” or ” counter-insurgency “in northern Arakan state.
Participants also agreed to categorically rejected the findings of the commission of inquiry in the state of Arakan, which was based on “oral testimony” of villagers Rohingyas under pressure, they say.
Emphasized the urgent need to lift the severe restrictions imposed on the Rohingya villagers, it is estimated that more than 120,000 – who are on the brink of starvation and death as a result of no access to emergency medical services.
The participants called on the Myanmar government to stop all acts of genocide against Rohingya as they are defined clearly in the 1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and allow an independent and impartial investigation into crimes against humanity and ethnic cleansing, calling for the European Union and its Member States to develop responsibility in this the case before commercial interests.
The statement in Conference was signed 10 organizations in Europe, including the Arakan Rohingya National Organization and the Rohingya organizations in the United Kingdom and the Rohingya Organization in Denmark as well as in Germany, Switzerland and organizations from Norway, Finland, Italy, Sweden and the Netherlands
