The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid bin Raad al-Hussein said on Wednesday he was strongly suspected of committing “genocide” against Rohingya Muslims in northern Arakan province of Myanmar since August.
In a speech at the UN Human Rights Council, Prince Zeid said reports that mass graves had been bulldozed in Myanmar showed “a deliberate attempt on the part of the authorities to destroy evidence of possible international crimes that may include crimes against humanity.”
“The recent announcement that seven soldiers and three police officers will be prosecuted for the extra-judicial murder of 10 Rohingya is not enough at all,” he said in his address to the council in Geneva.
