Saudi Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Dr. Anwar Eshki, Chairman of the Middle East Center for Strategic and Legal Studies (MECSLS), held a reception for the Director General of Arakan Rohingya Union, Dr. Wakar Uddin, at the MECSLS Headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
The reception was followed by an hour long meeting attended by Dr. Anwar Eshki, Dr. Ali Reda (Chairman, GEOREDA Saudi International), Talal Daous (Former Director of OIC Muslim Minority & Community Dept.), Dr. Wakar Uddin, and Mustafa Farid (ARU Public Relations Coordinator). The meeting covered various issues faced by the Rohingya ethnic minority in Burma/Myanmar and refugees in South & Southeast Asia, particularly India and Bangladesh. The highlights of the meeting were the current volatile situation on the ground in Northern Arakan/Rakhine state, Rohingya IDP camps, security issues faced by Rohingya people in Rathedaung and other townships in Arakan, the UN Fact-finding Mission, Kofi Annan Commission, and the strategic efforts by the Arakan Rohingya Union for mobilizing international support to the Govt. of Bangladesh for its efforts to repatriate Rohingya refugees to their homes in Arakan, and some other important issues.
