Deputy police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda has been appointed to take charge of investigating into suspected human trafficking gang responsible for smuggling Rohingya migrants into the country and hiding them at a camp bordering with Malaysia resulting to several deaths from illnesses or fatigue.
National police chief, Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmoung, said today that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha had attached great importance to the Rohinya case and demanded a probe to find out whether any officials or influential figures were involved in the trafficking of the Rohingya people.
Meanwhile, two Rohingya survivors found at the border camp in Padang Besar told police that some Thais and Myanmar people were responsible for looking after the border camp.
Songkhla police, meanwhile, have ordered a stop of some 20 bodies dug out of graves at the camp for DNA and forensic tests before they are to be properly buried.
The Chularatchamontri’s Office has contacted the police in Songkhla of its wish to arrange for proper burial of the dead victims in accordance with the Islamic law.
