One killed and 4 injured in explosion in northern Myanmar

A motorbike explosion killed one and injured four others in Moe-Mauk town in Myanmar’s northern Kachin state, according to the local police.

The accident took place near Moe-Mauk market at 9:10 a.m. local time (0240 GMT) on Saturday, a source from the Kachin police force told Xinhua.

The motorbike exploded near the car of U Lagai Naw San, an officer of local people’s militia, while he was opening his car door, the source said.

The motorbike and the car were parked in front of a tea-shop outside the Moe-Mauk market.

The injured have been brought to hospitals for urgent treatment and U Lagai Naw San was reportedly dead in hospital.

The cause of the explosion was still unclear and the accident was under investigation, said the police force of Kachin state.

Moe-Mauk, located in the south of Kachin state, is 13 km to the east of Bhamo city.
