Saudi Arabia stressed the need to facilitate the return of the Rohingyas who had been expelled from their country, a safe, dignified and voluntary return, and to take the necessary measures to hold those who had been harmed to account.

This came in a speech delivered by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Muallami, today before the UN Security Council in the open ministerial debate on “Protecting civilians during armed conflict”.

“In Myanmar, the world is turning its hands as it sees hundreds of thousands of Rohingya Muslim civilians being driven from their homes, burning their homes, raping their wives and driving their children away,” he said.

He stressed that it was high time that the perpetrators of acts of aggression against civilians realized that their crimes would not escape accountability.
