The Bangladeshi government has planned to arrange a visit to the makeshift Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar district sheltering Rohingyas from Myanmar for the heads of delegations and international organizations who will take part in the upcoming OIC ministerial meeting here in May.
The 45th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the OIC will be held on May 5-6 with the theme ‘Islamic Values for Sustainable Peace, Solidarity and Development’.
“In fact, there’ll be a separate sideline session on the humanitarian challenges of the Muslim world with a special focus on the Rohingyas on May 6,” a senior Foreign Ministry official said.
Prior to that, he said, a visit to the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar will take place on May 4.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Thursday briefed foreign diplomats stationed here on the 45th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organisations in Dhaka were present.
The briefing, held at the state guesthouse Padma in the city, lasted for half an hour from 4pm. Foreign Ministry senior officials were also present.
The current Rohingya crisis and the challenges facing by the Muslim Ummah — the conflicts, division, tension and instability of the Muslim world — will get focus in the CFM, officials said.
The Foreign Minister apprised them the issues like Palestine, challenges facing by the Muslim Ummah such as the conflicts, division, tension and instability of the Muslim world to be discussed at the Dhaka CFM.
The problems of terrorism and violent extremism, sectarian tendencies, hatred, prejudice and Islam phobia, massive humanitarian crises with forced displacements from and to Muslim countries — seriously affecting rights and dignity of the Muslim minorities like the Rakhine Muslims of Myanmar will also be discussed.
The issues of persistent poverty, socioeconomic backwardness of Muslim societies and protection of their rights and fundamental freedoms will also get priority, said the Foreign Ministry after the diplomatic briefing.
The Rohingya problem in its humanitarian and human rights aspects is going to get prominence, officials said.
