Organization of Islamic Cooperation called for a full investigation into the outbreak of violence witnessed by the Arakan region after rebel attacks on the border facilities in Myanmar on Oct. 9, which led to death of many security personnel and rebels.
The organization demanded the identification of the perpetrators in order to bring them to justice, expressing its deep concern about the outbreak of violence in the region, after receiving disturbing reports of killings outside the law suffered by Rohingya Muslims, as well as the burning of houses and arbitrary arrests by security forces in the town of Maungdaw and other villages in the northern province of Arakan, what caused the flee of a lot of Rohingya from their villages, which led to a severe shortage of food, water and basic requirements.

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Iyad bin Amin Madani to remain calm, appealing to all parties concerned to act with the utmost restraint, and to renounce the use of violence, and to avoid escalation of the situation, while urging the Myanmar government to provide full protection for the Rohingya people in northern Arakan province.
He expressed his concern that the volatile situation and ongoing violence will only prolong the plight of the Rohingya people, and to further polarization in the Arakan region, reminding that Myanmar can only achieve real development as well as social and economic progress only through dialogue and reconciliation among all members of society, including the Rohingya.
