Seven thousand Rohingyans who had taken shelter in Bangladesh were adversely affected by monsoon rains.

According to UN Secretary-General Spokesman Stéphane Dujarric, monsoon rains have caused flooding, and pools of up to 2.5 meters deep in Cox’s Bazaar, where Rohingya Muslims live.

Stéphane Dujarric warned that monsoon rains were a threat to the lives of the Arakan refugees.

“More than 7,000 Rohingya refugees have been affected by storms and landslides caused by monsoon rains, and 25,000 refugees are in serious danger,” he said.

The United Nations describes the military operations carried out by the Myanmar army in the southwestern state of Arakan, which has caused more than 700,000 Muslims to flee to Bangladesh, as ethnic cleansing.
