Officials in Myanmar, announced last Thursday, that at least 14 people died since the beginning of this year, due to an outbreak of pulmonary tuberculosis in remote and poor areas in the north of the country.
A member of parliament from the region said that 14 people, including six women, died after contracting this deadly disease, over the past two months.
This statement came over a phone call and he added that “pulmonary tuberculosis and malnutrition symptoms appeared evident to those injured.”
He pointed out, that a team of military doctors and a team of nurses, has been send to provide the necessary treatment for about 20 patients with others suffering from similar symptoms, in the two villages.
Last year, the authorities in Myanmar revealed the spread of measles in the northern regions, having claimed the lives of 43 children, in six weeks.
Tuberculosis is the second most deadly human diseases after HIV (AIDS) which kills some 1.3 million people worldwide every year.
According to estimates by the World Health Organization, more than 150 thousand people suffering from tuberculosis in Myanmar.
