US Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Mark Green is visiting the district to meet Rohingyas and see the present situation on the ground.
The USAID administrator, who arrived Dhaka on Monday, will be making a major announcement later in the day (Tuesday) at the USAID funded WFP Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program facility at Balukhali Rohingya Camp.
US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat is accompanying the USAID administrator in Cox’s Bazar.
USAID Senior Deputy Assistant Administrator for Asia Gloria Steele and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration Ambassador Mark Storella are also accompanying Administrator Green as part of the delegation.
Administrator Green plans to visit several sites in Bangladesh and Myanmar where the US government has been providing humanitarian assistance to displaced Rohingyas.
He will also meet with senior Bangladesh government officials.
In Myanmar, the administrator will meet with civil-society representatives, students, and youth leaders, as well as officials of Myanmar to discuss steps needed to address the crises in Arakan state and violence in other areas of the country.
Green will visit Bangkok from May 21 to 22 to meet with USAID Mission directors from across Asia to discuss the implementation of the US President’s Indo-Pacific Strategy.
