The European Commission announced on Thursday the provision of humanitarian assistance worth 40 million euros (46.7 million euros)
( 1 million) to provide support to refugees from the minority Rohingya and host communities in Bangladesh and through Arakan in Myanmar.
“The Rohingya crisis has reached unprecedented proportions in recent months, with hundreds of thousands of people needing humanitarian assistance,” EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stilianides said in a statement.
“Our emergency assistance will provide basic supplies such as food, clean water, health care as well as preparations for seasonal wind,” he said, adding that the EU is committed to helping those affected and needy in Bangladesh or Myanmar.
To € 51 million ($ 59 million) provided by the European Union to Rohingya refugees in 2017.
Around 700,000 ethnic Rohingya Muslims face difficulties in southern Bangladesh, which they have fled since authorities in Myanmar launched a campaign in August that the United States and the United Nations called “ethnic cleansing.”
