A three-year-old girl was rescued after being trapped beneath rubble for 12 hours following airstrikes carried out by the Myanmar military (ruling military council) on Lintha Ngapali village in Thandwe Township, Arakan State, on the evening of December 29, local sources said.

The Ngapali Beach Community Charity reported that the child, May Kan Kaung, also known as Ma Aye Thandar Khaing, was pulled from the debris at around 8:00 a.m.

the following morning. The organization confirmed that the airstrike occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m., leaving the girl buried under collapsed structures throughout the night.

According to the sources, the child sustained minor injuries to her leg, while her father, U Maung Ngo, was also injured to varying degrees, Narinjara reported.

The bombing killed nine civilians, including four children under the age of 15, among them a four-year-old girl identified as Ma Nwe Nwe Myo.

At least 12 others were injured, several of them seriously. The airstrikes damaged no fewer than 23 houses, with several homes catching fire due to the intensity of the explosions.

Local residents said warplanes dropped eight 500-pound bombs in two separate strikes, targeting Lintha Ngapali Ward and the Kyar Kan Kyi area using a jet fighter.

A resident from Thandwe told local media that he could not understand the reason behind the attack, questioning why civilian areas were bombed and children killed despite the absence of any fighting or military clashes in the area at the time of the airstrike.

Arakan State has witnessed a sharp escalation in air attacks by the Myanmar military in recent months, with repeated strikes on populated areas resulting in civilian casualties, including children, and widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure.

According to media reports, many of these airstrikes have been carried out far from active frontlines, deepening humanitarian concerns and further worsening the suffering of civilians across Arakan State.
