Myanmar’s local authorities have extended the curfew regime in Maungdaw, a sensitive conflict zone in the northern state of Arakan, for two more months to ensure more security, stability and the rule of law, the Myanmar news agency quoted the Department of Public Administration in Maungdaw as saying on Wednesday.

The decision, which has been in place since Monday, will continue to ban the gathering of more than five people and go out together, from sunset to sunset, from 6 pm to 6 am local time.

The initial curfew was imposed in Maungdaw on 25th August, following a military crackdown by security forces.

Meanwhile, all the displaced persons who had taken refuge in Sittwe, capital of Myanmar’s Arakan State, returned to their homes after the situation returned to normal.

Under a program to coordinate efforts, provide humanitarian assistance, resettlement and promote development, headed by Myanmar state councilor Aung San Suu Kyi, construction and infrastructure construction in Arakan State has been under way since last November, including the construction of buildings, roads and water and electricity supply facilities.
