Myanmar authorities increase arbitrary operations in Arakan as refugees set to return

Arakan News Agency learned from its sources in Arakan state that the Myanmar authorities have stepped up their repressive operations towards the remaining Rohingya Muslims in the state by imposing further harassment, arbitrary measures and fines.
A resident of the city of Maungdaw, who witnessed a fierce military campaign in August, said authorities had increased fines for Rohingya Muslims as well as a curfew on the city.
The authorities have begun to prevent Muslims from building fishing boats, going down to rivers and fishing, a key profession on which the local population depends, he added.
The witness pointed to the authorities continued to confiscate funds from Muslims in an arbitrary manner and in different ways, while announcing the readiness to receive the 100 thousand refugees who fled to Bangladesh.
