A member of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was seriously injured in a landmine explosion reportedly planted by Buddhist Arakan militias (Arakan Army) along the Bangladesh–Myanmar border, in a new incident that highlights the growing security risks in the border areas.

According to the Arakan News Agency correspondent, preliminary reports indicated that the explosion occurred during a routine border patrol near an area adjacent to Arakan State in western Myanmar, where the explosive device detonated inside Bangladeshi territory as the patrol team was passing through.
The explosion resulted in severe leg injuries to one soldier, who was immediately transferred to a nearby military hospital for emergency treatment.
Security sources suggested that members of the Arakan militias may have crossed the border to plant the landmine, an act considered a direct threat to Bangladesh’s national security.
Following the incident, Bangladeshi security forces intensified border patrols and launched a wide-scale investigation to identify those responsible, while the government issued a public warning urging residents in border areas to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
Bangladeshi officials condemned the attack, describing it as an attempt to destabilize the region amid escalating tensions and conflicts inside Arakan State in Myanmar.
The incident comes at a time when Bangladesh faces increasing cross-border threats, as armed groups in Myanmar continue their violent operations, while authorities reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the nation’s borders and ensuring the safety of its citizens from external threats.
