The government authorities in the western Arakan state are planning to set up camps for displaced Rohingyas in the northern city of Maungdaw, following the military’s crackdown on October 9.
A local source told Arakan news agency that the Chief minister of the state, Mr. Nyi Pu met on 17th and 18th of this month with officials of the towns and villages of Maungdaw, to discuss ways and mechanisms for the establishment of camps for Rohingya as (IDPs) Internally displaced persons to shelter them.
The source said the Rohingya rejected the idea and demanded that the local authorities rebuild their homes, which were destroyed by helicopters and weapons by the army and security forces and drove them out of their villages where they lived for decades.

It should be noted that the Myanmar army launched a large-scale military operation on October 9th that killed many Rohingya and which led to fleeing of 75 thousand to Bangladesh amid stories of atrocities committed by the Myanmar soldiers of gang rape, mass killings and burning of houses and the destruction of entire villages in response to attacks on police stations in Arakan province by unidentified gunmen which police are saying are Rohingya.
