Myanmar recalled military trainees sent to Britain after London suspended its training program for Myanmar soldiers following a wave of mass violence against Rohingya Muslims.
Myanmar said the army would not send any trainees to Britain, including pre-agreed trainees.
The British training program for Myanmar soldiers, which began in 2015, focused on training, human rights and international law, but Prime Minister Theresa May announced that it would stop until an “acceptable solution” to the Rohingya crisis was reached.
More than 400,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled Myanmar since Aug. 25th as part of a wave of mass exodus that the United Nations says amounts to “ethnic cleansing.”
Refugees blamed the army and local Buddhist groups for the arson attacks on their homes and killings.
The statement said five Myanmar soldiers were in the United Kingdom and arrived at the Myanmar embassy in London on Wednesday.
