Myanmar constituted a committee to prevent and alleviate violence between religions

Newspapers reported that the Myanmar government in the country formed a high-level committee was named the Central Committee for Emergency Management task prevention and mitigation of inter-religious violence in Myanmar, according to a statement from the president’s office.

According to the statement, which was prepared last Tuesday and was released on Friday morning, by Vice-President Henry Van Thou and ministers from the ministries of defense, ministers of states and police chiefs.

The statement said that the Commission would prevent “other religious problems in the country”, and cracking down on “incitement to violence”.

It is scheduled for the Commission to work directly with the state and the authorities at the local level and also the people, including the police branches. It will also work, if necessary, with civil society on strategies to anticipate the violence, and will take advantage of the media to spread “awareness” and to combat any incitements coming thorough media.

It should be noted that Myanmar has seen in recent years, bouts of religious violence against Muslims across the country and accused the Buddhist monks extremists in the organization “What Ba Tha” for inciting violence against Muslims through hate campaigns.
